What’s A Twitter Party?!

I’ve seen a lot of people asking “WHAT IS A TWITTER PARTY” in just the two short days the Applecheeks Week Twitter Party has been promoted.

I’m going to try to give you a little run down!

Twitter is a social media site. You have 140 characters to say what’s on your mind. You can reply to people, “retweet” things others say that interest you, and so much more.

First, you need to get an account! It’s free and easy. Choose a twitter name that you love, because you’ll be stuck with it! I recently changed mine from @graciekate to @katiespickles, and it has been confusing at times! Especially when I was quoted in Parents Magainze as @graciekate! BOO.

Now “follow” some people! Following someone means that their tweets show up on your homepage for you to read! You visit someone’s page, and right below their picture is a FOLLOW button. Check out my twitter- @katiespickles or Ilana’s- @applecheeksdipe for an example. Just hit “Follow” and you will see our tweets on your home page!

Adding the @ symbol before someone’s name will reply to them! You can have all kinds of conversations just by replying to people!

Those are the basics of Twitter. It’s super easy, you just need to practice a little! Feel free to ask me ANY questions and @ me any time to see if you’re doing it right ;)

Now on to Twitter parties!

A #hashtag is something you put in your tweets. It’s like a tag or subject. You know how you tag people in your Facebook posts? Or companies? Or pictures? It’s kind of like that. Clicking on a #hashtag will take you to a stream of people that wrote the same #hashtag in their tweet. THIS is how you party!

Following the #hashtag “#Applecheeks” will take you to a page of ONLY people that are “at” the party and talking! You MUST add “#Applecheeks” to every one of your tweets for it to show up in the stream.

You may also use a 3rd party Twitter party application. The two I like are Tweetgrid.com and Tweetchat.com. They auto refresh so that you don’t have to keep hitting refresh to keep up.

I will write more regarding those applications soon. I don’t want to overwhelm anyone!I just wanted to give the basics so that the ones that aren’t Twitter-savvy wouldn’t be discouraged!

Remember! You must RSVP to win! Your RSVPs are being automatically entered into a spread sheet that is numbered. To win I will choose numbers from random.org and choose the winners from the numbers it gives me! You also must have tweeted with the hashtag #Applecheeks at least once to win!

NOT dumb!!! :)
When you are on your main page in Twitter, there is a big headline that says “What’s Happening” and a box under that. That is where you type.

To reply to someone you just put that @ in front of there name :)

You can also “mention” someone in your tweet. It doesn’t HAVE to be at the beginning. For example:
“My friend @katiespickles told me about this party! #applecheeks”

Hope that helped!
