I met Beth Anne IRL at BlogHer, and let me tell you, LOVE HER. She’s so funny on her blog, Heir To Blair, but even more fabulous in person. She has a really cute husband {biatch} and a gorgeous little boy, Harry {like the diamonds}.When I asked my Twitter girls for some southern-lovin’ on Pickles & Paisleys, BA sent in pure genius. Sweet tea. I may make mine a bit different, and possibly with an extra scoop of sugar when no one is looking… but the end result is the same. Pure southern in a glass. Thanks @heirtoblair! MUAH!

Long hot summer days & humid nights where the crickets chirp & the sun rests.

Things move slower in the South & it’s not just a rumor, it’s a way of life that drags out vowels & traditions.   The hot days & lazy rivers seem to carry on forever, like the hospitable urge to sit on the front porch with a glass of tea that sweats in the sun.  The tea that makes both the South & my mother famous while she melts the sugar & stirs while dinner bakes in the oven.

The tea that joins family over the dinner table, that sweetens the taste of turkey & gravy on Thanksgiving night.  My little boy runs up to me in the backyard, cheeks flushed from just one last climb on the slide & he gives a little dance, mouth open like a little bird.  I smile & tip my glass to his lips – he is a Southern boy already.

Southern Sweet Tea

Fill up a pitcher half with water & place five family size Lipton tea bags in the water.  Microwave for five minutes.  Drain the tea bags in the half-full (& now piping hot!) pitcher.  Stir in one cup of granulated sugar until completely dissolved.  Fill remaining half of pitcher with cold water & stir.  Serve over ice.

The staples in the tea bags are ok when you microwave them? I always thought about doing this but I was worried I’d blow up the microwave.

How the heck do you fit a pitcher in your microwave?

If it’s a counter one, you can do it! (well, The Momma can!)

Mine is over the stove, so I have to fill half a pitcher, then pour that water in a bowl with tea bags, then transfer it back to the pitcher to add sugar & more water. It’s a pain, but worth it :)

I am jealous how cute both of you. I really admire on how you have a healthy life with tea. I am a tea drinker and I really like the result. Both body and skin.
